The Russian owner of a ship filled with ammonium nitrate does not have a Cyprus passport

On Thursday, Cypriot authorities said that the Russian businessman who owned the ship carrying 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate in 2013, which caused the devastating explosion in Beirut, is not a Cypriot citizen.

The police also stated that they had not received any requests from the Lebanese authorities to find those responsible for the explosion.

The statement came after many media reports on Wednesday that the Cypriot authorities were looking for a Russian businessman allegedly residing in Cyprus and linked an explosive cargo that had been in the port of Beirut since 2013.
