The number of registered unemployed in Cyprus in October 2020 increased by 90% compared to October 2019, reaching 31,487 people – so the COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions affect the labor market, according to Statistics Cyprus. Statisticians say that the hotel business and catering industry has logically taken the brunt.
In addition, the trade sector was noticeably affected, with unemployment in October increasing by 2441 people compared to the same month last year. Losses in several other spheres are three-digit: transportation and warehousing – 791 persons, education – 710, professional, scientific and technical services – 690, administrative and auxiliary services – 685.
Statisticians note that the deterioration of the situation on the labor market on the island has been recorded for the fourth consecutive month.
