Cyprus Open 2020 Golf Tour has significantly advanced alternative tourism in Cyprus

Alternative forms of tourism in Cyprus has largely contributed to the European golf tour PGA – Cyprus Open 2020, which was held from 29 October to 1 November on the courses of the resort Aphrodite Hills in Paphos, reports the Ministry. Recall that the “non-alternative” Cyprus tourism was severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic – statistics have calculated that compared with last year, the industry lost more than 80% of tourists and income.

Although the tournament was held without a spectator, such a major sporting event, which was attended by 105 best players of the world ranking from 27 countries, covered by many international media such as Sky Sports. In particular, there were live broadcasts to a potential audience of 735 million people in 47 countries – this greatly contributed to the tourism promotion of Cyprus.

The Ministry notes that the organization of tournaments of this scale in Cyprus makes a huge contribution to the development of alternative forms of tourism and is part of the National Tourism Strategy until 2030, which the agency implements, despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
