The Ministry of Health specified who is allowed to enter and leave the “contaminated” areas of Cyprus

The Minister of Health of Cyprus, Konstantinos Ioannou, issued a decree specifying the newly introduced restrictions in the areas of Limassol and Paphos related to containment of COVID-19. The document defines the circumstances under which certain citizens are exempt from restrictions and may still travel to, from and between the areas of Limassol and Paphos.

Truck drivers carrying finished goods or raw materials may travel between Limassol and Paphos; they must have shipping documentation. Travel is also allowed for workers on construction sites, oil companies, food and agricultural industries and companies producing medicines, emergency repair equipment and journalists (with a valid certificate and permit from the employer).

If there is a permit signed by the employer, employees of the following fields of activity are also exempt from the ban: electricity, water supply, telecommunications, safe operation of air transport and air traffic management, prison operation, repair or maintenance of equipment and electromechanical devices of the Police, Fire Department and National Guard, ensuring traffic safety in ports and safe waste management.

Travel is also allowed for persons travelling to or from the international airports of Larnaca and Paphos (with air tickets). Transportation of cargo from and to the ports and airports of Paphos, Larnaca and Limassol – regardless of the point of departure and destination of the trip – is permitted, provided that the driver can show the waybill.

Parcels may be delivered and private security services may be provided.

Athletes and sports clubs competing in the first division or in the national team may move for training or competition.

Divorced or separated parents with appropriate documentation may travel to and from Limassol and Paphos to visit their children.

Public transportation and cab services are not affected.

Note: starting at 5 a.m. on November 18, all persons exempt from restrictions will additionally be required to submit a negative PCR test result issued seven days before the date of travel.
