Savvas Perdios: “Russia does not allow its citizens to travel abroad”

Savvas Perdios, the head of the Cypriot tourism deputy ministry, spoke to Politis radio and, among other things, commented on the prospects of Russian tourists coming to the island. According to the official, all the problems and doubts are now related to the fact that Russia “does not allow its citizens to travel abroad”.

Savvas Perdios suggested that tourists from Russia will be allowed to arrive in Cyprus from April 1: “The Russian market has a great interest in Cyprus, but at this stage Russia does not allow its citizens to travel abroad. When this obstacle is removed, bookings will begin.”

Meanwhile, Russian media report that Russian authorities have decided not to open new overseas destinations before the February and March holidays in order not to repeat last year’s experience. In the winter and spring of 2020, Russians went on vacation abroad, despite the COVID-19 pandemic – and when the authorities of the host countries decided to close the borders, they had to organize evacuation flights for hapless tourists and provide them with financial assistance.

Head of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko urged Russians to plan holidays in Russia to eliminate “coronavirus” risks.
