Coronavirus spread in Cyprus will accelerate cold, damp and enclosed spaces

In the coming winter the situation with the spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Cyprus may get worse – said Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Virology at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus Petros Karayiannis.

He explained that in winter, when it gets cold and wet, people will tend to gather indoors – this will contribute to the spread of the virus.

The expert noted that currently the situation is under control, although close to the border of loss, and expressed hope that the measures already taken and planned will help to curb further spread of the virus. Karayannis underlined that much depends on the conscious behavior of the Cypriots: “Unfortunately, there are many people who still act as if nothing is happening. If everybody understands that our situation is borderline, two weeks of restrictions will help us to confidently master the situation”.
