Another boat moored to Cyprus with 38 Syrian refugees

On the eve, around midnight, another batch of Syrian illegal immigrants landed in Ayia Napa, arriving by sea – 38 people: 17 men, five women and 16 children.

The boat was spotted in the waters of Cyprus during the day, six nautical miles east of Cape Greco. An NCIS patrol prevented the refugees from boarding for some time, prompting them to turn around and sail for their homeland. By nightfall, however, instructions were received for “safe towing of the ship to the port”.

The refugees were taken to a reception center for illegal migrants in the village of Kofina, where they were placed in a quarantine zone on the coronavirus. A 47-year-old man was arrested while checking his documents – it turned out that he was deported from Cyprus in 2010.
