Health ministry: decree violations slow return to a normal life

Constantinos Ioannou, head of the Cypriot Ministry of Health, warned residents that the exit from the lockdown will not be quick and noted that violations of departmental decrees only slow down the return of Cypriots to normal life.

Cypriot authorities have rebuked that the exit from the second lockdown, announced on January 10, is too slow and gradual. “Our aim is to ensure a controlled exit from the restrictive regime in order to avoid going back and consequently new bans,” the minister commented. – We could find ourselves locked in a vicious circle with even worse social and financial consequences.”

According to Ioannou, Cyprus has achieved a good epidemiological record because the vast majority of residents have been receptive to the need to comply with the restrictions. “At the same time, I would like to express my deep regret that the good results have been overshadowed by a lack of discipline. This is a disrespect for people’s feelings and a danger of undoing many months of sacrifice and hardship,” the minister said.
