CyBC has no intention of changing the “devil song” for Eurovision

Cypriot broadcaster CyBC does not intend to change the song “El Diablo” (The Devil), selected for Eurovision, due to accusations of offending the feelings of believers, the chairman of the board Andreas Frangos said.

There is no question of changing Cypriot participation in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, the head of the corporation said, speaking on a show on the RIK TV channel. He noted that the company is generally respectful of criticism, but in this case there was and is no intention to offend anyone’s religious feelings. Frangos conceded that perhaps the social message of the song could have been better explained and invited theologians to visit the TV channel and discuss the matter.

The Eurovision Song Contest, cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place from 18 to 22 May in Rotterdam’s Ahoy Arena. Performers from 41 countries will take part in the competition.
