Limassol to step up ‘coronavirus’ checks during carnival

In Limassol, quarantine checks will be stepped up during the city’s annual carnival, the Cyprus Times reports. This refers to those few festivities that will take place offline, as well as routine police patrols.

The carnival celebrations in Limassol will start on March 4 and end on the 15th. The number of police patrols in the city for that time will increase from 20 to 35, plus the Cyprus National Guard will provide 40 of its officers to help check compliance with ministry of health decrees and patrol the streets.

Although mass celebrations are not expected this time because of the pandemic and most of the carnival events are announced online, police officers intend to patrol those places in the city where in previous years the celebrations were most active. These include Castle Square, Heroes’ Square and Saripolou Square.
