14.7% of Cyprus population is on the verge of poverty

Tomorrow, October 17, the International Day for Poverty Eradication will be celebrated all over the world. For this annual event the Cyprus Statistical Service published a brochure “Poverty and Social Exclusion 2019”.

In Cyprus, the percentage of the population on the poverty threshold (i.e. their income was below the poverty risk threshold of €9,729) reached 14,7% in 2019. In 2018, this figure was 15.4 percent.

Accordingly, the risk group decreased by about 4,000 people in 2019 (128 thousand) compared to 2018 (132 thousand).
