A new draft law that addresses the creation of a drug-free zone around each school will be considered by the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus in the near future. Its radius will be 500 meters. If a drug dealer is detained in such a zone, he will face an imposing fine, much higher than that provided for by current legislation.
The emergence of such a draft law is associated with an increase in the number of cases of drug use by Cypriot schoolchildren. There are now 10 schoolchildren in a rehabilitation center in a suburb of Nicosia.
