Last weekend, France launched a procedure to declare the south-eastern region of the country as a natural disaster zone. Damage from the destruction is estimated at 1 billion euros.
After the unprecedented flooding caused by Storm Alex, trucks loaded with clothing, drinking water, baby food, food and medicine were sent to areas of southeast France. Only one of the settlements in this region, Venanzon in the canton of Turret Levan, has to be delivered by helicopter. So far, the roads to the city have been blocked.
The Italian regions of Piedmont and Liguria are also asking the government to declare a state of emergency in the region.
At the moment, according to official data, at least 8 people have fallen victim to the disaster in the south-east of France and the north of Italy, many of them are missing.
