The night before, a major fire broke out in Paphos, destroying two stores near the Royal Tombs. The police who arrived on the scene together with the firefighters suspected malicious arson.
Later, after a more detailed examination of the fire, the criminal version had to be discarded. It turned out that the fire was caused by a short circuit in a refrigeration unit located in one of the rooms.
The fire caused serious property damage, but no casualties, largely because the stores had been closed for the past three weeks due to the coronavirus quarantine.
