Turkey is ready to start negotiations on the establishment of two sovereign states in Cyprus

On Tuesday, the Turkish vice president said that it would be beneficial for Greece and the whole region if the president of the country starts negotiations on reconciliation instead of inflating war.

Fuat Oktay said the Greek president’s accusation that Turkey is an invader and occupier of Cyprus was “a funny and useless propaganda statement as well as a provocation”.

He said that if the Greek and Greek Cypriot sides decided to negotiate the establishment of two sovereign states in Cyprus, Turkey would support that initiative.

At present, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou is on a three-day official visit to Cyprus. After meeting with President Nikos Anastasiadis to discuss, among other issues, Turkey’s illegal activities, she visited the old city of Nicosia, including the closed checkpoint on Ledra Street, along with other government officials.
