Tougher measures against COVID-19 will come into force in Cyprus on Friday

Cypriot authorities decided on Friday, December 11 to introduce stricter measures to combat the spread of coronavirus infection in the country – the Cabinet issued a decision on December 9 at an emergency meeting.

Catering companies are closing down. Takeaway and delivery are allowed, while the takeaway can be carried out only until 21:00, when the curfew comes into effect.
Supermarkets, department stores and stores with an area of more than 500 sq. m. may continue to operate subject to restrictions: one visitor per 10 sq. m.

From December 14, students of state lyceums, senior classes of private schools, as well as students of colleges and universities will switch to distance learning. Private educational centers of the extracurricular education system are suspended from work. Kindergartens, elementary school and gymnasiums work in the same mode.

Churches will have to hold worship services without an audience, and the number of those attending religious ceremonies (weddings, baptisms, funerals) is limited to ten.

The new measures are valid until the end of the year.
