The Speaker of the Cypriot Parliament asks the police to cut his security in half

Cyprus House Speaker Adamos Adamou asked the chief of police to reduce the number of his security guards from 15 to eight, arguing that there was little reason to worry about his personal safety.

Adamou was elected Chairman of the House of Representatives after Demetris Syllouris resigned.

Recall that Syllouris resigned amidst a public outcry over a video hidden by Al Jazeera journalists offering citizenship assistance to a fictitious Chinese businessman with a criminal background. As a result of the scandal, the government was forced to terminate the Citizenship for Investment program.
