The number of COVID-19 patients in Cypriot hospitals is almost as high as it was before the lockdown

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Cypriot hospitals has reached 205 – just below January’s ‘record’ of 209 on the eve of the second lockdown.

The largest number of patients with the coronavirus was at the Central Hospital of the Free Territories of Famagusta (Paralimni) – 69 people. Then there are Limassol Central Hospital with 65, Nicosia with 53 and Larnaca with 13. A further five are in the capital’s Makarios Hospital. Makarios hospital.

Medics point out the following main reasons for the increase in the sickness rate: the easing of restrictions has led to an increase in human contact; part of the population does not comply with the decrees of the Ministry of Health. The specialists have a negative attitude towards the opening of “summer” catering establishments from 16 March: they consider the decision of the authorities to be a political move, wrong from an epidemiological point of view and fraught with a new lockdown.
