The largest number of first registered applicants for political asylum in the Republic of Cyprus was recorded by Eurostat in the second quarter of 2020. During this period 880 applications were submitted (989 per million population). The second place was occupied by Slovenia (441 candidates), the third place was occupied by Greece (376 people).
On average, according to statistics, in the European Union in the second quarter of 2020, for every million people there are 104 applications for political asylum. The most “unpopular” were Hungary and Poland (two applications per million) and Estonia (three per million).
Most new candidates for political asylum are Syrians (7,700), Afghans (4,200) and Venezuelans (3,000). The maximum number of asylum applications was registered in Germany (14,200), France (8,900) and Spain (7,200).
