The Ministry of Transport of Cyprus has tabled a new bill in public debate which will regulate the use of personal vehicles such as bicycles, electric bikes, electric wheelchairs and electric scooters on the roads of the island.
The legislation seeks to provide an accurate definition of personal vehicles, as well as a minimum set of equipment required to operate such vehicles.
The law will describe the mandatory conditions for the use of personal vehicles: they must have clean and working front and rear lights, which must be turned on in the dark and must wear a helmet.
In addition, the bill states that driving a personal vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs is prohibited by law and the violator will be fined.
A driver may also be fined for dangerous and/or careless driving.
The bill has already been published on the website of the Ministry of Transport, so that people can read it and send their wishes and suggestions no later than September 18.
