The green line in Cyprus

The “green line” in Cyprus will be fenced with barbed wire

Barbed wire fences will be set up on the border of the buffer zone between Cyprus and the occupied northern part of the island – thus the authorities are planning to stop the flow of illegal migrants, coming from the territory of the unrecognized TRNC. It was reported by Philenews, citing its sources in the Cyprus Interior Ministry.

Department employees have been instructed to survey specific areas and make a map of “weak spots” where barriers are required in the first place.

Recall that in the fall the Ministry of Interior has introduced in the Cyprus Parliament a bill to toughen penalties for “human traffickers” who for a bribe help illegal immigrants to enter the country by sea or land. The document proposes to introduce imprisonment for up to 14 years for refugees guides – today it is only six months, while for the “escort” migrants pay about 2000 euros per person.
