Second COVID-19 wave already in Cyprus

On Wednesday, October 7 a press-conference was held in Nicosia where the epidemiological situation on the island was discussed.

It was announced that the second wave of Covid-19 had begun in the country. Judging by the statement of the head of the Ministry of health Constantinos Ioannu, one shouldn’t expect weakening of measures for struggle against coronavirus till spring 2021.

Yorgos Nikolopoulos, associate professor of medicine at the University of Cyprus and member of the President’s Epidemiological Committee, speaking at a press conference, stressed that now is the critical moment that will determine the course of the second wave.

He added that the biggest number of the diseased is the youth. Over 50% of new infections in Limassol are among schoolchildren. At the same time, they can be carriers of the virus and infect people around them if there are no symptoms. Therefore, the observance of security measures is of great importance.

Minister of Health of the Republic of Konstantinos Ioannou also stated that the residents of Cyprus are tired of the pandemic, but antiviral measures cannot be weakened yet.
Ioannou urged the islanders to see doctors in time for the initial symptoms of Covid-19.

Because it is now very important to prevent an increase in the number of those hospitalized with coronavirus.
