Late Monday night there was widespread unrest at the “Purnara” refugee center in Kokkinotrimithia – as SigmaLive reports, more than six hundred people took part in a mass clash between migrants.
What exactly was the cause of the conflict between the “residents” of the camp, the police have yet to find out. Meanwhile, the case was so serious that they used stones and rebar. When the protesters tried to break the fence, the police had to use force to restore order.
Thirty-five people were injured as a result of the incident. Their injuries were not serious and did not threaten life and health, but 24 refugees were nevertheless hospitalized in the capital’s general hospital.
In addition, several vehicles, including a police patrol vehicle, were damaged.
According to preliminary reports, the conflict was of an ethnic nature, with refugees from Syria and African countries on the opposing sides.
