Penalty to 20 participants of peaceful protest against restrictions because of Covid-19

Police of the Republic of Cyprus issued fines to 20 participants in a peaceful protest in Cyprus.

They went out to Eleftheria Square in Nicosia in the evening of Saturday, September 12. But since they were without masks at the mass event and did not follow the rules of social distance, they were fined 300 euros. Moreover, the police reminded that on the eve of the action they had warned all the islanders that they must wear masks during the mass gatherings.

In addition to the fines, four activists were issued subpoenas: two organizers, a drone operator who launched it over the square without a license, and a DJ for playing music without obtaining prior permission.
