New generation e-passports in Cyprus will come into force on Thursday, 30 July. This was announced by the Department of Civil Registration and Migration.
Ordinary, diplomatic and service passports will be valid until their expiration date and will not be renewed in the future.
Last November, the German company Veridos began modernizing the island’s national system to meet EU specifications. It is also to update the system for biometric data collection, centralized personalization and issuance of electronic passports, electronic identity cards and electronic residence permits.
They also had to update important software components of the system, which were obsolete.
