It got very hot in Cyprus

It will be another blistering hot day with an extreme high temperature warning in force for a third consecutive day.

Early on Monday, the Met Office issued a yellow alert warning that the inland maximum temperature is expected to rise to around 40 C. The warning is in effect from 1 pm to 4 pm today.

Be aware that high temperatures are expected. Some health risks amongst vulnerable people e.g. the elderly and very young are possible, it said.

In its weather bulletin for Monday, the Met Office said that seasonal low pressure and a relatively warm air mass are affecting the area.

Early morning local increased low cloud or patchy fog will soon clear and temperatures will rise to 40 C inland, around 29 C on the west coast, around 32 C on the remaining coasts and 30 C in the mountains.

Tonight will be mainly fine although locally there will be patchy fog or low cloud on the coasts.

Temperatures will fall to 22 C inland and on the south and east coasts, around 21 C on the remaining coasts and around 18 C in the mountains.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be mainly fine but clouds that develop early on Tuesday afternoon may lead to isolated showers or thunderstorms in the mountains and inland.

There may be local light fog at night, mainly on the coast.

Temperatures are expected to remain at the same levels, which are above the seasonal; average inland and in the mountains.
