Interpol rejected Russia’s search for the Ananyevs bankers

Interpol has removed from its search databases information about the former owners of Promsvyazbank, brothers Dmitry and Alexey Ananyev, who are accused in Russia of multi-billion dollar embezzlement and theft. Recall that earlier the District Court of Limassol has ordered the freezing of their international assets in the amount of 267 million euros.

After the complaint of a lawyer of brothers Interpol conducted an audit and found the case of Ananyevs politically motivated. “Kommersant” quotes the comment of the brothers’ representative on this matter: “During the trial, we stated that the prosecution of Dmitry and Alexei Ananyev was part of a campaign to seize one of the most successful private commercial banks in Russia in order to create a tool to serve the defense sector in the face of sanctions.”

Dmitry and Alexey Ananyev have lived in Cyprus for several years and have citizenship of the country, obtained before the start of the lawsuit against Promsvyazbank.
