Interpol has put two Russians and a Portuguese man on the wanted list in connection with the case of last year’s explosions at the port of Beirut, which killed about 200 people. One of the Russians is currently residing in Cyprus: businessman Igor Grechushkin, owner of the ship Rhosus.
Recall that the Rhosus in 2013 brought to Beirut a large cargo of ammonium nitrate, which was confiscated by customs and stored in a Lebanese port until August 4, 2020, when the nitrate detonated. A series of powerful explosions destroyed many buildings, damaged the international airport and killed about 200 people.
In December, Lebanese prosecutors charged former Prime Minister and three former ministers with negligence resulting in loss of life. The captain and owner of Rhosus were repeatedly questioned by investigating authorities.
The Associated Press specifies that the two Russians and the Portuguese are subject to an Interpol “red notice” – a request for arrest, which the authorities of the countries are not obliged to comply with immediately.
