Police in Paphos detained a man for driving while intoxicated, who provided law enforcement with a package of questionable identification documents and the right to drive a vehicle.
The traffic police received information about drunk driving on Coritzas Avenue in Paphos. When they arrived, city witnesses pointed to a man who had previously left the car he had parked on a dividing island.
During a preliminary inspection of the driver, police found that he had more than seven times exceeded the permitted alcohol level. The man showed them his Latvian driver’s license and stated in Greek that he was from Georgia, after which the law enforcement officers suspected that his license had been tampered with. The document was seized for inspection.
The police are now trying to identify the detainee and verify the identity of the person they have been given. The man gave the inspectors his employment contract and a photocopy of a Bulgarian ID card with a photo of another unknown foreigner.
