In Cyprus, honey and soap producers were awarded for their innovations

On December 16, the winners of the annual Innovation and Research Award were honored for the 14th time at the Municipal Theater in Nicosia. The ceremony took place in a truncated format – due to anti-covid restrictions, only the awardees and representatives of the Cyprus Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB) and the Innovation and Research Foundation (IDEK) were present.

In the “Primary Sector” category, the award went to Mellona – for its product Mellona Honey Spreads, which did not heat honey during its production.
In the “Recycling Sector” the winner was Handy Spa with an innovative method of producing organic handmade soap.
“This year the services sector was represented by Hellenic Petroleum Cyprus with the development of the EKO Smile application for cell phones.
The winner in the “Public Sector” category was the University of Cyprus for the development of an artificial intelligence system to predict the amount of electricity produced by the sun.
Finally, in the “Social Innovation” category, the award went to Bank of Cyprus – for helping to create the #SupportCY community support initiative.
