More than half of the Cypriots who lost their jobs found new ones in less than six months, according to Statistics Cyprus. During the reporting period – the third quarter of this year – 53.3 percent of the total number of unemployed were unemployed for less than 6 months, 19.6 percent – for 6-11 months, and 27.1 percent – for a long time.
The number of unemployed persons in the period from July to September was 37,234 and the unemployment rate was 8.2% of the total workforce (men 7.9% and women 8.6%). For comparison: in the third quarter of 2019 the unemployment rate was 6.7%, and in quantitative terms – 30 088 people.
Among young people (15-24 years old) the unemployment rate was 20.4% (15.6% a year earlier).
