Federer to miss rest of season after a second knee operation

Roger Federer will miss the rest of the 2020 season after repeated knee surgery. The 20-time Grand Slam champion announced today.

Federer was injured at this year’s Australian Open Tennis Championship in Melbourne, where he played two challenging five-set matches against Australian John Millman. Their game lasted 4 hours and 3 minutes, and American Tennys Sandgren, the game lasted 3 hours and 31 minutes and in the end, he lost to Novak Djokovic in the semi-final.

In February, Roger had his first knee surgery. Apparently, it was not successful. “A few weeks ago I had to perform an additional rapid right knee arthroscopic surgery”, the 38-year-old wrote on his Twitter post.

After the closure of professional tennis tournaments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s not yet known how many tournaments Federer will miss. In the meantime, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking has been frozen and the injured Federer retains his fourth place in the world classification since early March.
