As of today, the new EU tariffs on agricultural and industrial goods from the U.S. came into force for a total of 4 billion dollars a year in the WTO proceedings in the case of Boeing.
The EU introduces commercial measures in the form of additional value added duties in the amount of 15% for agricultural products from the U.S. and 25% – for industrial goods, including aircraft. The duties are introduced as part of the implementation of international commercial rights of the European Union, in particular, those determined by the World Trade Organization (WTO).
According to the WTO decision in the Boeing case, the EU was granted the right to introduce customs duties against the U.S. on American goods in the amount of $4 billion. Previously, the U.S. imposed trade measures against the EU for goods of European production in the total amount of 7.5 billion Europe continues to call on the U.S. to abolish duties in the case of Airbus, which are valid for a year and promises in this case to cancel the decision on its tariffs.
Recall that the trade conflict between Washington and Brussels over Boeing and Airbus continues since 2004. Both parties accuse each other of violation of WTO norms and provision of unauthorized state subsidies to their aircraft builders.
