The second round of elections was held yesterday, October 19, in the northern part of Cyprus.
The votes have already been counted and the new leader of the Turkish-Cypriot community is the Prime Minister of the unrecognized by the world community Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ersin Tatar.
In the second round Ersin Tatar collected 67 385 votes, and Mustafa Akinji – 62 858.
The winner assured the residents of the northern part of the island that he intends to expand cooperation with Turkey and protect the rights of Turkish-Cypriots in the Mediterranean region.
He also emphasized that he was ready for negotiations with Greek Cypriots: “I am ready to sit down at the negotiating table and put an end to the Cyprus problem based on facts.
Recall that Ersin Tatar is a supporter of the establishment of two independent states on the island.
On the eve of elections he announced the opening of the coastal part of Varosha. This has caused indignation among both the descendants of the indigenous inhabitants of this suburb and the world community.
