Cypriots rank second in Europe in terms of loaded wallets with cash – a survey of the European Central Bank showed that a resident begins his day with an average of 114 euros in banknotes and change.
The average consumer in the euro zone leaves home with 76.5 euros in a purse, while there is a big difference between individual countries. In 2019, the greatest love of cash showed Austrians (121 euros), followed by Cyprus with 114, Germany with 107 and Ireland with 103.
The worst wallets were the French and Dutch – 45 euros, and the Portuguese – 46.
Researchers compare the amount of cash that a resident carries with the peculiarities of payment behavior of its population as a whole. Accordingly, Austrians and Cypriots prefer transactions in cash, while the population of the Netherlands and France prefer to pay by bank cards and other non-cash methods.
