Cyprus airports served 80% fewer passengers in 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected two Cypriot international airports, with the total number of passengers served in 2020 decreasing by 79.5%, writes Philenews. The publication refers to the data of Hermes Airports, according to which through the airports of Pafos and Larnaca passed almost 9 million people less than in 2019.

For all of 2020, passenger traffic – departures and arrivals – was 2,312,806, compared to 11,273,748 a year earlier. Of these, Larnaca airport accounted for 1,679,816 passengers in 2020 and 8,229,346 in 2019, while Pafos airport accounted for 632,990 and 3,044,402, respectively.

The situation is not expected to change significantly in the first months of the new year – but analysts are still pinning some hopes on 2021, relying on the vaccination against coronavirus.
