The Council of Ministers of Cyprus agreed with the request of the Ministry of Tourism to extend the special offer of discounts in hotels for holidaymakers permanently residing in the country. Recall that it was originally assumed that the action will end in November.
More than 100 hotels around the island participate in the action. The scheme includes residential complexes, tourist settlements and agro-tourist facilities in Famagusta, Larnaca and its mountainous regions, Limassol and its environs, Nicosia, Troodos, Kato Pyrgos and Paphos.
Cypriot travel agencies can connect to the “Emergency Plan for the support of domestic tourism”, which allows you to offer tourists a maximum price of 60 euros (VAT included) for a double room with breakfast per day for a minimum stay of two nights. The government provides a subsidy of 35% of the cost of accommodation.
According to the Cyprus Hotels Association, this scheme was welcomed by hundreds of local residents. Thanks to the discount and government subsidy of this accommodation option was able to attract the permanent population of the island as tourists in those parts of the island that they have not yet visited.
It should be noted that the hotels participating in the program can offer their guests only breakfast, which means that tourists must buy lunch, dinner and snacks in local restaurants and stores.
