Cypriot woman gave 210,000 euros to a pen friend and accused him of fraud

In Limassol it is accepted to manufacture a case of Internet fraud and recovery of the amount of 210 thousand euros – that’s how much money a Limassol resident gave to a “pen pal”.

The applicant said that this year, through one of the Internet platforms for communication, she met a man and made friends with him. From time to time this man, under the pretext of various financial difficulties, asked her for the money she was sending him. In total, between July and October, she sent the man 210,000 euros in 14 receptions to several bank accounts before suspecting a “friend” of fraud.

The police are investigating all the circumstances of what happened and are urging citizens to take more responsibility for online dating.
