Cypriot unemployed will become Covid compliance supervisors

The Cypriot government will hire 260 people from among those registered at the labor exchange – according to a previously announced idea, the unemployed will become supervisors of compliance with the restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Health to combat the spread of COVID-19.

According to the authorities, the loosening of restrictions starting March 1 will “create additional oversight needs and more systematic inspections with a focus on safety and health in the workplace and in the retail trade.”

The Department of Energy, Trade and Industry has already begun accepting applications from “interested unemployed.” The expectation is to employ 260 people for three months, with the possibility of extending the contract for another similar period. If there are more than 260 applicants, the jobs will be drawn in a lottery.

The requirements for applicants: to be officially registered at the labor exchange, to have at least secondary education, to have a good command of Greek language, not to have a criminal record. For men, a military service certificate is also required.
Working conditions: 40 hours per week, pay – 1000 euros per month, pay taxes as self-employed.

Applications are accepted on the website of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry until 23:59 on March 2. For more information, call tel. 22-867123.
