Cypriot lawyers want to sue the state over falling revenues

Members of the Cyprus Bar Association are preparing to sue the government and demand compensation for losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to StockWatch, the lawyers blame the government for the fact that their income dropped sharply because of the anti-covids measures, and the payments from the Finance Ministry were too small to adequately compensate them.

“Restrictions proposed by the Ministry of Health and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers have led to the fact that the practice of law is almost completely destroyed,” stated the head of the Association Christos Clerides, adding that the losses of the industry will be enormous. – I do not rule out that we will demand compensation for losses in court. The adequacy of the introduced measures, which limit people’s rights to work, travel, communicate and live with dignity, is definitely questionable.
