Cyprus is imposing stricter restrictions to contain the recent surge in coronavirus cases, especially in Limassol and Paphos – the government has announced new measures to support business and employment. “The economy can still afford to support people and businesses affected by the crisis without reducing their payroll,” said Finance Minister Konstantinos Petrides.
The minister said that the schemes launched by the government include support for workers, subsidies for enterprises whose turnover has decreased by more than 80% and enterprises that have completely suspended their activities. He also announced a six-month extension, until June 30, 2021, of the subsidy schemes for interest rates on new business and housing loans.
His colleague from the Ministry of Labor Zeta Emilianidou noted that the new arrangements will cost the state about 30 million euros per month, in addition to 130-150 million allocated to similar measures announced last week.
Recall that as of today, severe restrictions have come into force in Limassol and Paphos, including the closure of stores, curfews from 20:00 and a ban on movement from area to area and beyond.
