Cavusoglu: Cyprus will never be united

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that talks on the reunification of Cyprus will not take place any more – the further discussion of the Cyprus issue will be about the coexistence of two states on the island. He added that Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades “shares this approach,” according to CNA.

Cavusoglu explained that all negotiations about the federation that were held earlier remained inconclusive. The Turkish foreign minister blamed the lack of progress on the Greek Cypriots, who “not only refuse political equality, but also do not want to share anything with the Turkish Cypriots.

“Ankara will not waste any more time,” Çavuşoğlu said. – There are two communities, two peoples, two states on the island of Cyprus. Of course, the other side may have different points of view. But I know very well that Nicos Anastasiades also wants a two-state solution.”
