Amendments to the Immigration Act

Today the Cypriot House of Representatives voted for amendments reducing the time to file an appeal to the Administrative Court in case of refusal of asylum from 75 to 15 days.

After the adoption of bills to combat sham marriages, the introduction of restrictions on admission of students from third countries to Cyprus universities, speeding up the processing of applications by the Migration Service should significantly reduce the number of illegal immigrants in Cyprus.

The amendment, which was voted for by a majority today in the House of Representatives will be approved by Parliament at its next session. The main task of the government at the moment is to significantly reduce the number of illegal economic migrants who have flooded the island.
