Friday night in Nicosia, police busted an underground brothel in one of the city apartments. They detained the alleged brothel mistress, a 57-year-old Vietnamese citizen, and five female employees of the establishment. At the time of police arrival the girls were serving customers.
The woman and the girls were taken to the police. The officers of the anti-trafficking department took statements from the female workers, after which the girls were sent to a shelter, identifying them as victims of the sex industry. The brothel mistress were charged with running an underground brothel and making illegal profits.
Police also questioned clients of the establishment and attached to the case a bill of 20 euros found in the apartment.
The Vietnamese national reportedly pleaded not guilty to any of the charges, and the court, after a preliminary hearing in the case, remanded her in custody pending the investigation.
