The Cyprus General Prosecutor’s Office ordered a stay of criminal proceedings against a 35-year-old Limassol resident accused of leaving three children unattended.
Recall that the woman came to the attention of the police after the law enforcement officers noticed her seven-year-old daughter walking alone in the park. Travelling through the girl’s place of residence, they found two other children there – a teenager and a toaddler. Their mother went to work, leaving them unattended.
The woman was to be prosecuted for neglecting her parental responsibilities, but the Minister of Justice, Emili Yioliti, publicly intervened for her.
“I express my satisfaction with the suspension of the criminal proceedings against the mother from Limassol. I thank Zeta Emilianidou, George Savvides and Savvas Angelides for their prompt action. I hope that a compromise between work and motherhood will be reached in our country,” the official commented on the situation.
