Turkey does not decline its rights to develop offshore areas

Turkish seismic vessel Oruc Reis has returned to the shores of Turkish Antalya, state television company TRT reported on Sunday. The vessel anchored in the Gulf of Antalya on Saturday night.

On the eve of that event, two delegations, Turkey and Greece, met at NATO headquarters on Thursday. The meeting was initiated by the NATO secretary-general to resolve the conflict between the two member states of the alliance.

Greece called it the first step in easing tensions between the two countries.
However, Turkey is not in a hurry to relinquish its rights to the territory it has left, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Sunday that the return of the Oruc Reis research vessel to the Antalya coast is temporary and does not mean Ankara has relinquished its rights in the eastern Mediterranean, Interfax reports.

In mid-August, Turkey sent Oruc Reis and two auxiliary naval vessels to the disputed territory near the Greek island of Castelorizo. This caused indignation on the Greek side, followed by a statement that the maritime area is within the Greek continental shelf.
