To curb the spread of coronavirus, the Government of the Republic of Cyprus introduced on Friday, 31 July, the mandatory wearing of masks in all enclosed public areas.
Violators will be fined up to €300.

This was announced by Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannu after a morning meeting with a group of experts at the Presidential Palace. The meeting was held with the participation of President Nicos Anastasiades.

Ioannu also announced additional preventive measures that will come into effect from midnight on Friday, including the fact that 1000 tests will be conducted daily at airports instead of 600. He also added that repatriated Cypriots would also be tested.

The Minister also promised to increase control in restaurants and bars, especially in the coastal area of Limassol, where a large number of cases of COVID-19 have been reported over the past week.

All public events in Limassol are again limited to 10 people. The figure of 75 people indoors and 150 outdoors will only be allowed in nightclubs. The 75-person limit also applies to church services.

The stricter measures in Limassol will be valid for three weeks.
