Cyta has launched the first 5G network in Cyprus, the Cyprus Mail reported citing the provider’s management.
Cyta CEO Andreas Neocleous told the publication that the new Cytamobile-Vodafone network will enable Cypriots to enjoy unprecedented connection speeds and expand the ability to connect multiple devices simultaneously.
To use the new technology, no extra charges are required – 5G networks are available by default to all Cytamobile-Vodafone subscribers as long as their devices support the new standard and are within range. Certification from the provider is also required.
By the end of the year the company plans to increase its user coverage to at least 98% – currently 70% of the population of Cyprus can use the 5G service. The network does not yet cover all areas of the island, but Cyta plans to expand its presence even in remote areas.
