Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies in the private sector of the Cyprus economy will not be able to pay their employees the 13th salary – some trade unions have expressed concern about this.
The Minister of Labor Zeta Emilianidou, commenting on the problem, recalled that the payment of the 13th salary is protected by the provisions of the thematic legislation and expressed her intention to discuss the issue with her colleagues in the tenth of December.
Unions have not yet received specific complaints, but some companies generally tend to associate the 13th salary with state support measures.
The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in turn, asked its members to pay 13th salary if possible. If it is not possible to discuss the issue with the employees and come to some kind of agreement rather than making unilateral decisions.
