According to Eurostat, 2,859 foreigners were granted Cypriot citizenship in 2019. In total, 706,397 were issued in the EU.
British citizens lead in terms of the number of Cypriot passports obtained – 605. Then come Russians (556) and Greeks (328). Eurostat also provides comparative data by year: in 2018 about 3,200 foreigners received Cypriot citizenship, in 2017 – 3,700, in 2016 – 3,100, in 2015 – 2,400.
Cyprus is in fourth place in the EU in terms of the number of passports issued, with a figure of 3.2 ppm. The top three are Luxembourg (9.1 ppm), Sweden (6.2) and Belgium (3.5).
